     COURSE DESCRIPTION

    • This year your child will learn about World Geography.  Geography is one of the world's oldest fields of study.  In ancient times, travelers reported about the physical features (mountains, forests, deserts, and seas) and peoples of other lands they had visited.  The word "geography" itself comes from two ancient Greek words -- the word Earth (geo) and the word writing (graphy).

    • Modern geography includes the study of the Earth's surface and how the location, climate, physical features and resources of a place affect its people.  Geoghraphers examine how people interact with their environment, and how people, goods, and ideas move from place to place.  They are concerned with how Earth's surface shapes human processes.
