SAT WRITING SECTION: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

The SAT writing section/essay is optional. Check with the college(s) of your choice to see if it is required. When in doubt, err on the side of signing up for and taking the essay portion.  SAT test costs $60.  The writing portion will cost an additional fee.  Helpful essay information here:  https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sample-questions/essay

    SAT SUBJECT TESTS

SAT Subject tests are given on (almost all) the same dates as the regular SAT (see above). These 1-hour exams are required/strongly suggested by certain selective colleges and universities.

    Information here:  https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat-subject-tests

    FEE WAIVERS AND DISCOUNTS

Both ACT and College Board (makers of SAT) offer fee waivers for their exams, bringing the cost to $0. If you qualify for free or reduced lunch at school, see Mrs. Loveless to ask about fee waivers! You may be eligible for up to 2 waivers for ACT and 2 waivers for SAT. These can also lead to discounts on college application fees. Pay attention to test registration deadlines and ask early: the waivers do NOT count toward late registration fees.

    SAT School Day

Sabine will offer the SAT during the school day to a very limited number of juniors in March.  Date to be determined.  Sign ups will be around December/January.  If you are unable to sign up for this test, you may still take the SAT through The College Board during any of their available test sessions!

    TSI

The TSIA 2.0 is a college entrance exam that is given to all Sabine students during the spring of their junior year.  They can access their scores at our high school website under the counselor link.  They must send their scores to the college they want to attend.  The PPA is required before the TSIA 2.0 can be given.  Here is the link.  New users must create an account. https://practice.accuplacer.org/login

    PSAT

The PSAT is given to sophomores and juniors in October every year.  Your counselor will have a limited number of spots available for you to sign up.  The test is around $18.  Ask your counselor if you qualify for a fee waiver.

*We do not offer an accommodated SAT, PSAT, or TSI here at Sabine.  You may request an accommodated SAT through the College Board to see if you qualify, and take one at a local testing center.  You may request an accommodated TSI through Kilgore College testing Center.

*If you are a homeschooled student that lives in-district, please contact the school counselor for any available options for testing in your area!  The deadline for this is August 30th of each school year.
