Kids Heart Challenge, formerly known as 'Jump Rope For Heart' is an annual fundraising event held at Sabine Elementary School, and at schools nationwide, benefiting the American Heart Association. The event is for all 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders who raise money for the American Heart Association. This year the students at Sabine Elementary raised a total of $16,863.14, far surpassing last year's total, and also making Sabine Elementary School the 3rd ranked fundraising school in the East Texas Area for Jump Rope For Heart!
On February 21st & 22nd, 2019 the second and third grade students had a ‘Jump Rope Party’ where they did jump rope tricks, jump rope contests, and learned new skills in the gym, under the direction of Physical Education teachers, Jason Heffner and Cassie Dowden. The fourth and fifth grade students got to experience 'Hoops For Heart' where they learned basketball skills and games.
The Sabine Elementary P.T.O. provided healthy snacks for the students as well. Coach Heffner & Coach Dowden also handed out door prizes to every child that participated. Local business who donated door prizes were: Whataburger of Liberty City and the American Heart Association. Special thanks also goes to Ms. Bass, Mrs. Cottier, Misty Gee, and all PTO volunteers who made this event possible. Now children and adults with heart problems will benefit from the funds raised by our generous students and community.
